Welcome to the Boston Area Swarthmore Alumni Book Group's website. Our group has been around since 1998 and serves Boston-area alumni of Swarthmore College, as well as parents, friends, spouses, and other assorted folks. As those in the class of 1983 can tell you, you need not have graduated in the Amphitheater in order to attend our meetings.

For 2019-20, we have decided to read post-colonial novels (under 300 pages) by writers from previously colonized countries:

Bapsi Sidhwa—Cracking India

Louise Erdrich—Tracks

Mulk Raj Anand—Untouchable

Jamaica Kincaid—Annie John

Maryse Conde—Crossing the Mangrove

VS Naipaul—In a Free State

Abdelwahab Meddeb—Talismano

Tahar Ben Jelloun—The Sand Child

Read for September: Day of Tears, Julius Lester
