Welcome to the Boston Area Swarthmore Alumni Book Group's website. Our group has been around since 1998 and serves Boston-area alumni of Swarthmore College, as well as parents, friends, spouses, and other assorted folks. As those in the class of 1983 can tell you, you need not have graduated in the Amphitheater in order to attend our meetings.

Our books for 2017-18 will include trilogies by the following authors:

Margaret Atwood—The Maddaddam Trilogy

√ Pat Barker—Regeneration Trilogy

√ Robertson Davies—The Deptford Trilogy

√ Amitav Ghosh—Ibis Trilogy

Naguib Mahfouz—The Cairo Trilogy

We will be reading Oryx and Crake, the first book of Margaret Atwood's Maddaddam Trilogy, for our next meeting, May 8th.

Introduction to The Manticore

In honor of Steve Gendzier, RIP:

When I dance, I dance; when I sleep, I sleep. Nay, when I walk alone in a beautiful orchard, if my thoughts are some part of the time taken up with external occurrences, I some part of the time call them back again to my walk, to the orchard, to the sweetness of that solitude, and to myself.

Michel de Montaigne, "On Experience"
