Welcome to the Boston Area Swarthmore Alumni Book Group's website. Our group has been around since 1998 and serves Boston-area alumni of Swarthmore College, as well as parents, friends, spouses, and other assorted folks. As those in the class of 1983 can tell you, you need not have graduated in the Amphitheater in order to attend our meetings.

For next year, each book group member was allowed to suggest one novel to read, adhering to these guidelines: the book needs to be a novel written by a woman or non-white male and be under 300 pages. It looks like we will not need to conduct any kind of selection process as we have done in the past because we have exactly nine books (our typical number in a year) for 2018-19. Here they are:

The Door, Magda Szabo

Kindred, Octavia Butler Read for December 4th. Snackers: (sweet) & (savory)

Death Comes to the Archbishop, Willa Cather

Sula, Toni Morrison

The Meursault Investigation, Kamel Daoud

The Housekeeper and the Professor, Yoko Ogawa

The Buddah in the Attic, Julie Otsuka

I was Amelia Earhart, Jane Mendelsohn

Day of Tears, Julius Lester
